Fun Day Wrap

Legends PhotoHinckley AFC raised £850 at our football fun day this afternoon, where an Andy Lucas hattrick and a brace from Carl Heggs helped the Hinckley Legends team to a 5-3 victory over Walsall Aces in the main attraction.
The match was kicked off by Millie Gadsby, daughter of former Hinckley United and Walsall centre half Matt, who tragically passed away whilst playing for Hinckley at Harrogate in 2006.
Joint manager of the Hinckley Legends side, Stuart Storer, played for the club that day, and he said ‘It was a lovely touch for Millie to kick the game off. It brings back memories of that day (at Harrogate), but it was nice to see the two clubs come together for this day.’
Storer was also pleased to see a new club formed to represent the town, saying ‘There was a good turnout from the lads, and it’s fantastic to help get Hinckley AFC up and running.
‘The facilities here (at Heather St John’s) are nice, although not as nice as the old ground, but hopefully we can get back in there soon!
‘It’s a very friendly club, but Hinckley always was a very friendly club, and it’s the people that make a football club.’
Another member of the Legends side was Nicky Platnauer, who said ‘It was excellent to see some old faces again.
‘It always is when you go to these matches, you can see a few friends that you haven’t seen for a few years so it was good to come back and play with some of my old teammates.
‘It’s a new start for the town. The facilities here seem very good, so hopefully the new club can put things in place and rise up the pyramid again.’
