Hinckley AFC A-A Bedworth United

A threatening thunderstorm over St John’s Park meant that Hinckley AFC’s match against Bedworth United was abandoned after 70 minutes.
The visitors were leading 2-1 when referee Matthew Smith opted to take the players off the pitch due to the storm.
Despite missing a number of players due to injury and family commitments, Hinckley started brightly, with James Benett-Tindall and Tyrone Clarke-O’Connell looking threatening on the wings.
Hinckley took the lead early on, when Clarke-O’Connell’s pinpoint cross was headed home by Craig Bannister for his seventh goal of pre-season.
Bedworth scored against the run of play after a quarter of an hour, when Mitch Thomson’s precise long range effort beat Matty Martin at his right hand post.
Hinckley were forced to change their system during the half when Nathan Walker was sent off, but Carl Abbott’s side maintained a foothold in the game with some good passages of play going into the interval.
Shortly into the second half, JJ Melligan was denied Hinckley’s second goal by a good save by Bedworth’s former Hinckley United goalkeeper Denham Hinds.
But Bedworth’s numerical advantage began to tell as the conditions worsened, and they took the lead after 63 minutes through Alex Naughton following strong suspicions of handball.
Only seven more minutes were possible, though, as the storms closed in around St John’s Park.
