Abbott Pleased with Hinckley Reaction

Hinckley AFC manager Carl Abbott was pleased with the way his side reacted to Tuesday night’s heavy defeat: by beating Pelsall Villa 13-0 on Saturday.
Abbott rued his side’s off day during the week, but was delighted that his side were ‘back to their normal selves’, and urged any fans who saw the match against Uttoxeter to return. Speaking after the game, he said: ‘All credit to Pelsall – I thought they tried to play their football, but I think anybody would have had a hiding from us today.
‘It’s been a horrible week. I was so upset with Tuesday’s performance. I know my players, and I know that it was a freak. Every single player, including the subs, was a long way below par, and I’ve never seen them like that before.
‘I knew that we would kick on again today with another good attendance. For those supporters who did come for the first time on Tuesday, and haven’t seen us play previously, please come back!
‘It was a below par performance and we weren’t ourselves. We like to get the ball down, play exciting football and score lots of goals, and today represented that.
‘It was a very accomplished team performance today. We asked the players to go and play on the front foot, play in their half and be patient in our build up play, but then burst into sequences of play and inject some pace. I thought we did that today, and the wide players were excellent.
‘I’ll take some of the blame for Tuesday, because we’ve gone back to a back four today playing 4-3-3. I’ve had a lot of my success over the last couple of years playing 4-3-3.
‘Coming here, we have an embarrassment of riches in forward areas, and we tried to play a system around the players we’ve got. I don’t think we ever really settled into playing three at the back during pre-season, but I think you’ll see us a lot more settled now, and looking like conceding fewer goals.
‘I still think that we’re devastating going forward, and it’s important that we move onwards and upwards. We said at half time that we wanted to recover the goal difference. I’m really pleased that we did that, and hopefully we can kick on.’
Abbott also reserved praise for Adrian Jones and Bekir Halil, his two full backs, neither of whom are naturals in the position.
‘Ada (Jones) is a terrific player. He can play in behind the front two, in the centre of midfield or anywhere on the left, and he gives us a lot of quality with his left foot.
‘Bex (Halil) has also done well today, coming out of the centre to play at right back. I thought Robbo (Richard Robinson) and Clappy (John Clapp) looked solid in the centre. We’ve got George Williams who can slot in there as well, so that might be the way we go from now on.’
He also commented on the addition of Sean Williams, who joined the club from league counterparts Bromsgrove Sporting on Friday.
‘Sean Williams is the best player in our league, any of the lads will tell you that. When the best player in your league becomes available, you sign him. The fans will really enjoy seeing him play.’
