Abbo on ‘Tremendous’ Result

Abbo on ‘Tremendous’ Result

Hinckley AFC manager Carl Abbott said his side’s 2-0 victory over Lichfield City last night was a ‘tremendous result’.

Goals from Luke Richards and Javia Roberts gave his side all three points against a Lichfield side who had started the season well, and ‘Abbo’ was delighted with the quality of performance all over the pitch.

He said: ‘(It was a) Tremendous result tonight, we can be really, really proud of ourselves tonight and it sets up really well going into Saturday (The FA Cup tie at Bromsgrove).

‘We can really look forward to Saturday now, and we can dare to dream about what might be for us.

‘Because the league’s so important, we needed to redress the Coventry United result, and we can tick that one right off tonight and look forward to Saturday.

‘It was a really good display tonight, both on our counter attacks in their final third, and defensively. Once we got our head in the game, I thought we were superb, it was a really good night’s work.’

Despite scoring eight times, Abbo felt that his side’s performance against Studley on Saturday was sloppy in places, but praised his side’s concentration levels throughout the game against Lichfied.

‘We gave the lads a bit of a tatering on Saturday, and kind of said “you’re not going to pull the wool over our eyes, that wasn’t good enough”.

‘I came back tonight having thought about it, and I said to the lads before the game that I was possibly a little bit hard on them on Saturday because it does take two to tango and Studley didn’t really bring any tempo to the game, or a great deal to the game. A little bit of sloppiness can creep in and I think that’s what happened on Saturday.

‘But tonight we knew that we were going to have to be concentrated and that they (Lichfield) would press us over the pitch, and that they’d be sharp and they’d put it on us, and they didn’t disappoint.

‘It made for a well contested game, and our concentration levels were spot on tonight defensively, and through midfield in possession. I’m over the moon tonight, and these are great nights when you can enjoy a win and have a look how results have gone elsewhere.’
