Abbo on ‘Fantastic Day’

Hinckley AFC manager Carl Abbott said his side’s 6-2 FA Cup win at Bromsgrove Sporting was a ‘fantastic day for the club’.

Braces from Luke Richards and Marco Adaggio helped AFC on the way to a comprehensive victory, and ‘Abbo’ said that although Bromsgrove played the majority of the match with ten men, his side shouldn’t take too much away from themselves.

He said: ‘(It was) Not as dramatic as last time (Hinckley’s 3-2 victory in March), but it was a great result and another fantastic day for the club.

‘I didn’t think it was quite as good a spectacle as a game as it might have been, I don’t know how much the sending off has had to play in that.

‘I said to Tommo towards the end of the game that against Walsall Wood we had a man sent off around the same time in the game, and we obviously went through that game having to be disciplined and in shape to earn something from the game.

‘I don’t think we should be taking too much away from ourselves because of that; Bromsgrove are a good side and to be fair to them they did throw the dice and put us under some pressure. Then we’ve obviously got the goals in the game and taken all the heat out of the game, and it’s petered out in the second half.

‘But it’s a great result and we look forward now to Redditch at home’

Abbo said that after the sending off, scoring from the resulting free kick put Bromsgrove immediately on the back foot, which changed the complexion of the game.

‘I know it’s a cliche, but I didn’t see the challenge and from what I’m told it was quite a harsh sending off and it’s obviously changed the balance of the game.

‘With us scoring directly from the free kick it hasn’t given the chance to re-organise and protect what they’d got at that point, which was obviously 1-1 at that time.

‘Again, we were clinical. We were good going forward and we can be pleased with a good day’s work and look forward to the Redditch game.
