Cherry reacts to Pershore win

Assistant manager Tom Cherry admitted that knowing his side had come back from 2-0 down against Pershore before helped in yesterday’s turnaround win.
In the reverse fixture last month, AFC trailed by two first half goals before Josh Burniston’s brace and Richard Munday’s header turned the game on its head.
So when the visitors raced into a two-goal lead again at St John’s Park, there was no need to panic for Richard Lavery and Cherry’s side who repeated the fate thanks to Luke Richards and James Williams.
On knowing they’d done it before, Cherry said: “I definitely think it helps,” but pinpointed the first goal just before half time as the key moment in the game.
“I think that was really important. If we’d have gone into half time 2-0 down it’s a different story but the goal at that time gives you a lifeline.
“It was exactly the same at their place. We went 2-0 down but got one back before half time and went on to win 3-2.
“It’s not just against these, but we’ve got goals in the team and that’s one thing that is apparent.”
With 103 goals in the league so far this season, Hinckley are the second highest scorers in the league but had to show different qualities late on.
Pershore had plenty of pressure but didn’t test Carl O’Neill, and Cherry was delighted with the resolute defending.
“It’s part and parcel of leading a game, the opposition will have a go for ten minutes. They did that and fair play to them, they put some young kids on towards the end and they came on and did well.
“They were always going to (have pressure) but we defended well and kept the three points.”
After three games in five days, Cherry admitted the legs were heavy in the changing room but praised his side’s mental resilience to come from behind again.
“They’re semi-professional footballers who have been to work all day every day in the last week, and then they’ve had to come and play three games in five days.
“But they’ve got through it and that’s the most important thing. We’ve got the same again next week and four games the following week so it doesn’t get any easier.
“But we’ve got good characters around the dressing room, that’s one thing that’s for sure with the lads we’ve brought in. We’ve got leaders and winners.”
