Lavery and Cherry opt to leave

Hinckley AFC can confirm that management duo Richard Lavery and Tom Cherry have decided to leave the club.

After taking charge of the side for the remainder of 2017-18 after Dale Belford’s departure, Lavery’s tenure yielded 11 wins from 21 games – scoring 58 goals in the process.

Taking over at a difficult time, Lavery and Cherry worked tirelessly to keep a side on the pitch capable of competing towards the top of the league table, and also ensured a squad down to the bare bones always took the pitch during the hectic last few weeks that brought about ten games in 23 days.

On his departure, Lavery said: “It was an extremely difficult decision but one that I had to make.

“It was a difficult job to take over at the time but I look back proud that we were still on course to compete for second until the fixtures caught up with us in the last month or so.

“I’d like to thank the club and the fans for their support during my time in charge.”

We’ll have a full reaction from the former player/manager in the next couple of days.

Chairman Steve Jelfs said: “We are, of course, disappointed that Richard and Tom have decided not to stay with the club next season.

“Richard was someone who knew a great deal about the identity of the club having spent so long with Hinckley as a player, so it’s a shame that their tenure has ended so soon.

“I’d like to place on record our thanks to both of them for their incredibly hard work during their time at the club.”

The club will shortly be inviting applications for their successor at the helm, with full details to be posted shortly.

We’d like to thank Richard and Tom for their efforts during their time with the club, and wish them all the best for the future.
