A message from Lavs

Former Hinckley AFC player/manager Richard Lavery admitted it was a difficult decision to leave the club after his departure over the weekend.

Having taken over from Dale Belford around the turn of the year, Lavery took charge of 21 games and won 11 of them as he rebuilt a side still competing towards the top of the league.

Lavery’s assistant Tom Cherry also leaves – and the former Hinckley United captain had a message for supporters upon his departure…

“It was an extremely difficult decision but one that I had to make.

“The club gave me my first go at management and for that I’m very grateful. I really enjoyed my time in charge.

“We were thrown in at the deep end when Dale left but I was never going to walk away. Hinckley is still very close to my heart so I wasn’t going to leave the club in the lurch. It means a lot to me.

“Despite this, we had some good success overall despite the last month or so when games really caught up with us. It was a tall order but we were still in the running for second until the last month or so when we were completely sapped of energy.

“By the end of the season, we only really had 11 or 12 fit players and had a couple of Under 18s playing. We just had too many games and not enough players.

“It was a very difficult decision to leave, but I think it was the right one.

“I’d like to thank all the supporters for their efforts during mine and Tom’s spell – you really spurred us on at times and you deserve plenty of success in the future.

“All the best,

“Lavs”
