Match Preview: Nuneaton Griff (a)

After a two week break from league action, Hinckley AFC return to Midland League action tonight with a local derby at Nuneaton Griff.

AFC last kicked a ball in the league two weeks ago with the draw against Coventry Copsewood, and after a gap to compete in the FA Cup, James Jepson’s men now have the chance to get their first win on the board.

AFC have drawn all four of their games so far after 90 minutes, only extra time in a replay separating them from Anstey Nomds in the FA Cup.

But with Griff having lost all of their league games so far, something has to change tonight.

Courtney Belford’s side have been beaten by Cadbury Athletic, NKF Burbage and Stapenhill so far, scoring just one goal in the process.

Lewis Commins netted that goal to add to his 19 in just 24 games last term, the young forward likely to be key if Griff are to record their first win of the season tonight.

Having had such a break, AFC have as many as three games in hand on some sides in the league and are in the unusual situation of being one of only four sides still unbeaten, yet one of six without a win.

Hinckley won both meetings between the sides last season, a comfortable 6-0 win back in August before a considerably more challenging afternoon at the Pingles Stadium in December, when only Steve Hart’s stoppage time winner brought the points back to Leicestershire.

The Pingles Stadium can be found at the back of the Pingles Leisure Centre, off Avenue Road, Nuneaton, Warwickshire, CV11 4LX.
