Coventry United await in FA Vase

Hinckley AFC have been drawn away to Coventry United in the third round of the Buildbase FA Vase.

AFC will make the short journey down the M69 to face the Midland League Premier Division Red and Greens in round three, after the respective sides won their second round ties this weekend.

Hinckley overcame Hereford Lads Club 3-1, helped by Sam Belcher’s brace, while United beat league rivals Boldmere St Michaels as they also netted three times.

Hinckley will be looking to reach the fourth round for a third consecutive year with victory in Coventry, while United were beaten by Bromsgrove Sporting at this stage last year.

Coventry currently sit in mid table in the league above Hinckley, having won five, drawn three and lost four of their 12 games thus far.

Only three sides have conceded fewer goals than Terry Anderson’s side, but only basement side South Normanton have hit the back of the net on fewer occasions. Former Hinckley men Jamal Clarke and Kevin Thornton feature in their squad.

It will also be a family affair for Jean Dakouri, whose younger brother Warren plays for United.

Jean was part of the Coventry side when the clubs met three times during 2015-16. United had the upper hand in the league games, with a 4-0 win and a 2-2 draw, while AFC won the League Cup tie 4-0.

The game will take place at Coventry’s 4,000 capacity Butts Park Arena, Butts Road, Coventry, CV1 3GE on Saturday December 1st.
