Match Preview: Atherstone Town (a)

Hinckley AFC make the short trip to high flying Atherstone Town tomorrow seeking a first win under new manager John Ramshaw.

This season’s first instalment of the A5 Clasico sees Hinckley make the short trip to Sheepy Road for their second game under new boss Ramshaw, following last week’s late defeat NKF Burbage.

In a game that traditionally provides tightly contested affairs, there have been three late winners and a draw in the eight previous meetings between the sides with AFC having three victories and the Adders four.

Ivor Green’s men have held the upper hand in more recent meetings, winnings the last four including two with stoppage time goals.

Sam Belcher was part of one of those victories, but tomorrow lines up against his former club as part of the AFC side hoping to cause problems for the league’s meanest defence.

The Adders have shipped just 20 goals in the league this term, but haven’t played for 11 days since a cup win at Black Country Rangers last Tuesday.

And it’s been two weeks since they last played in the league, a shock 1-0 defeat to lowly Rocester meaning they’ll be keen to put that right tomorrow.

A regular name at the top of the league’s scoring charts, Alex Naughton leads the way for them this season with 18, but he has been well supported by former Bolehall Swifts boss Joe Obi (12 goals) and Jonathan Gould (eight), who is yet to miss a game.

The Adders play at Sheepy Road, Atherstone, Warwickshire, CV9 3AD. The ground is only a short distance from the A5.
