Experienced centre-back James Bryson joined Hinckley AFC ahead of the run-in in March 2023, having won the United Counties Premier South with Coventry Sphinx the previous season.

He first joined Sphinx in the summer of 2020 after the end of GNP Sports, where he played more than 80 times to guide them to promotion to step six and was also club captain.

He then played nearly 100 times for Sphinx as they earned promotion to step four for the first time, and chipped in with eight goals from centre-back.

Injury that summer meant he never regained his regular starting berth, and he arrived at Hinckley via a brief spell with Rugby Borough.
