Match Preview: Atherstone Town (h)

Hinckley AFC play their fourth consecutive home game tomorrow afternoon when Atherstone Town visit St John’s Park in an A5 derby.

The previous three games have seen Carl Abbott’s side record two wins and a draw, and they will hope to preserve that unbeaten record tomorrow against an Adders side who have been frustrated by postponements even more than Hinckley this season.

Ivor Green’s side have played just one league game since 23rd January – a 2-1 win over Heather St John’s a fortnight ago – and now sit 14th in the Midland League First Division with 29 points from their 25 games. The Adders have recently added former Hinckley striker Deqwon Ebanks in a bid to boost their attacking options.

In contrast, Hinckley have played seven league games since the same period of time, and have lost just one in their ascension to sixth in the table.

On Tuesday, a display of clinical finishing from Sam Agar saw him net all four of Hinckley’s goals in the win over Pilkington XXX as he became the third AFC player to score four goals in a game, following on from Mark Bellingham and Matt Gardner last season.

Of the previous three meetings between the sides, Hinckley have won all three and that is a record The Adders will want to put right tomorrow. The clash earlier this season saw Abbo’s men record a battling 2-0 win in difficult November conditions, Sean Williams and Nathan Walker finding the net.
