The vote for the East Laundry Player of the Month for January is now up and running as four players all need your votes to win the first award of 2017.
A month that had its highs and lows started with the memorable 5-0 win over Berkhamsted in the fourth round of the Buildbase FA Vase, but three defeats followed as AFC lost league games to Bromsgrove Sporting and Atherstone Town before being defeated by Buckland Athletic in extra time to exit the Vase.
But who stood out for you in this month of ups and downs? Lee Butler, Jamal Clarke, Lee Thomas and Sean Williams are the nominees.
Butler started all four matches this month and began the new year in fine style with that stunning free kick in the second minute against Berkhamsted. After being influential in that win, he continued with another solid midfield performance despite defeat against Bromsgrove and has regularly threatened from his set piece deliveries.
Another ever present last month, Clarke has been a regular figure of dominance at the heart of the AFC defence since coming into the side and this month re-united his central defensive partnership with Ryan Paddock.
Another energetic month down the left flank sees Thomas on the shortlist as last year’s Player of the Year impressed going forward and at the back in January. He assisted the second goal in the win over Berkhamsted to cap off a stunning team move, and enjoyed success against in the defeat to Bromsgrove, causing problems with his crosses into the box.
Finally, Williams started the last three games in the month as the versatile forward played in midfield, on the wing and up front in those three games. He provided all three of the assists for Sam Agar’s goals against Buckland Athletic and came so close to putting AFC two goals ahead again when he crashed an effort against the bar.
