Match Preview: Atherstone Town (h)

Hinckley AFC badgeHinckley AFC will be out to avenge their recent defeat to Atherstone Town when the sides meet again at St John’s Park tomorrow, kick off 3pm.

Three weeks ago, the sides met in the first A5 Clasico of the season at Sheepy Road, and Hinckley were left ruing defensive errors that saw them come way with a 3-0 defeat.

Now, Carl Abbott’s side will want to exact a similar result, but the other way around as two of the Midland League First Division’s top four meet.

Second placed Adders – boosted by former Hinckley United midfielder Sam Belcher recently joining their ranks – are just Midland Football Leaguea point behind table toppers Bromsgrove Sporting, though they have played four games more.

Seven points further back and in fourth are Hinckley, having played the same number of games as Bromsgrove and having returned to winning ways in the last week with victories over Cadbury Athletic and Stafford Town.

And Abbott’s side could make it three wins in a week with another three points against Atherstone in the meeting of the league’s two top scorers – both individuals and the teams.

Atherstone TownHinckley are the best attack in the league having netted 76 times in just 22 games, while Atherstone have themselves scored 74 in 26 games. 41-goal Alex Naughton has been their chief tormentor and is the league’s leading marksman, while AFC skipper Ryan Seal is not far behind on 36.

Defensively, though, there are injury concerns for AFC with Ryan Paddock unavailable through army duties and Jamal Clarke a doubt through the knock he picked up on Tuesday. To help with that, Abbo has brought in centre back Chris Slater on loan from Chasetown.
