Match Preview: Atherstone Town (h)

Hinckley AFC badgeThe Midland League First Division’s two leading marksmen go head-to-head tonight when Hinckley AFC take on Atherstone Town at St John’s Park, kick off 7-45pm.

The game sees Hinckley skipper Ryan Seal, just one goal shy of 50 for the season, and the Adders’ Alex Naughton, himself on 43 goals from just 32 games, both on show.

For Hinckley, the game is a chance to strengthen their grip on second place while the Adders could close the gap on third-placed Leicester Road if they come away with all three points.

Midland Football LeagueAfter a recent blip that saw them win just once in six games, Atherstone look to have put that run behind them with two recent wins over Uttoxeter Town and local rivals Bolehall Swifts.

That means they currently occupy fourth, with 65 points from their 33 games – five points behind AFC though they have played two games more.

Hinckley have won their last two after previously dropping points at Studley, and will look to make it six games unbeaten in the league.

Atherstone TownThey’ll also be looking to exact some revenge for the reverse fixture in January, when AFC started brightly but were punished for not taking their chances by a clinical Atherstone side who came away with a 3-0 win. That was one of only two occasions where Hinckley have failed to score this season.

Atherstone have former Hinckley United favourite Sam Belcher in their ranks, while fellow midfielder Ben Steane also played for United in the early 2000s.
