Chairman Steve Jelfs on “amazing journey”

Hinckley AFC Chairman Steve Jelfs says he is proud of the journey the club have made over the course of the last three years.

Jelfs, who became Chairman last summer after stepping up from his previous role as Club Secretary, said to have made significant progress and had such success has constituted a superb season.

He feels it’s testament to the hard work and effort that goes on behind the scenes. He said: “It’s been an amazing journey.

“From us being sat in the back of The Plough and talking about this idea that we had, through to public meetings and then getting the club off the ground and the team on the pitch.

“And now you look at where we are as a good, well-established side representing the town of Hinckley. I think we’re doing the town proud. To finish second and get through to the last 16 of the FA Vase, on top of winning the Senior Cup last season and reaching the final of the League Cup this season has been absolutely amazing.”

Jelfs said the way the whole club comes together for the end-of-season presentation night typifies the way the club has united. He feels it is the perfect way to recognise all those who put hard work and effort into the club, both on and off the field.

“It’s incredible really, the progress we’ve made. I remember the first awards night here well. We had a few juniors turn up, a good crowd of supporters but not too many, and it’s grown year-on-year.

“That means we can recognise the people behind the scenes that make this club happen and without them we wouldn’t be anywhere.

“It’s great to be able to come down and watch the team on a Tuesday or a Saturday but without these people behind the scenes we’d never get out there.

“It’s right as a club that we recognise these people who don’t seek any payment or glory from doing it, they do it because they love the club and we need to show our love back.”
