Brocton 2-3 Hinckley AFC

A last gasp Chris Lloyd goal gave Hinckley AFC their third win inside a week at the expense of a Brocton side who tasted defeat for the first time this season.

It was a little harsh on the hosts who played their part in an entertaining game and came from behind to lead, but having come off the bench to level again, Lloyd’s classy finish two minutes from time was worthy of winning any game.

Courtney Belford handed a debut to new boy Lewis Rankin while Luke Richards and Jack Edwards both returned to the starting line up.

Hinckley were quickly in their stride and went in front after just three minutes, an excellent strike from the returning Edwards who drove his shot into the top corner from the edge of the area.

The home side quickly responded and were level ten minutes in, a neat move on their left involving Dan Evans and Jack Weldon ended with them working the ball across the box for Dean Williams to net on his debut for the club.

That goal gave the home side a lift and they pegged Hinckley back. Nick Brandish was in the right place to head off the line as Brocton were just about kept at bay before, at the other end, new boy Rankin got involved with a smart turn on the edge of the area before dragging his shot wide.

The game felt like it had more goals in it, and we saw two in as many minutes around the hour mark. Williams scored his second of the evening when he lashed home a loose ball in the area to give the hosts the lead, an advantage that lasted barely a minute as Lloyd, a half time sub for the injured Luke Richards, pounced to level after home keeper Henry Smith spilled the ball.

It was anyone’s game now with neither side content to settle for a point, but it was Hinckley who finished the stronger. After a couple of sets pieces in promising positions came to nothing, they won it at the death. Isa Abraham’s pass into the box found Lloyd and the predatory marksman did the rest, placing his shot just inside the far post as Smith narrowed the angle to great celebrations amongst the visiting contingent.
