Coventrians 1-3 Hinckley AFC

Hinckley AFC kicked off their pre-season campaign ahead of 2021-22 with a 3-1 win at Midland League Division Three side Coventrians.

On a breezy and chillier than expected July evening, AFC got their preparations underway for the season ahead with a win.

But they were given a good test by a Coventrians side who shaped up well themselves ahead of their upcoming Division Three season.

Lewis Rankin put Hinckley ahead early on with a well-struck free kick from the edge of the box.

Then, Isa Abraham hit the bar at AFC sought a second before the break.

But the home side soon equalised after the interval, when a mix-up at the back allowed Coventrians to score from the edge of the box.

The lively Abraham forced the home ‘keeper into a smart save as Hinckley looked to regain their lead – and they did that soon after through a good strike from the edge of the box.

Rankin then wrapped up the win, rounding off a well-worked team move to make it 3-1 five minutes later.

Both sides will consider it a good workout for this stage in pre-season, as AFC step things up against Division Two side Kenilworth Sporting on Friday night.
