Match Preview: Dudley Town (a)

Hinckley AFC kick off their Midland League Division One season with a trip to Dudley Town this evening and they’re a side that manager Joe Conneely expects to be “right up there” come the end of the season.

AFC were in Emirates FA Cup action at the weekend while their other Division One counterparts were getting their league campaigns underway.

For Dudley, that saw a 2-2 draw at home to Ashby Ivanhoe in which they conceded a late penalty to restrict them to just a point.

Conneely says the home side tomorrow have high expectations going into the new campaign, having lost in the play-offs last term.

He said: “They’ll be up there, they’re a good side.

“It’s a quick turnaround after a hot day which will take a lot out of the boys. We’ll think carefully squad wise with rotation and we’ll have to do it because we can’t go Sunday-Tuesday with the same 11, and they didn’t justify keeping places.

“We’ll have to change it up but that’s what we’ll do and we’ll go there trying to get the right result.”

Town finished fifth last season before losing to Darlaston Town in the play-offs. They also had the best defence of any side that didn’t get promoted.

Dudley groundshare with Sporting Khalsa at their Noose Lane home in Willenhall, West Midlands, WV13 3BB.
