Match Preview: Nuneaton Griff (a)

Hinckley AFC go in search of their first away win of the season with a local derby at Nuneaton Griff tomorrow evening.

The latest instalment of the local A5 derby comes at the Pingles with Hinckley looking to bounce back after a loss and a draw, and Griff looking to extend their good start.

Hinckley’s third away game on the bounce sees them looking for their first success on the road. It comes after a draw at Heath Hayes and defeats to Wednesfield and Dudley Town.

But they will be boosted by Lewis Padmore’s late double last week, and the return of Jack Edwards from Atherstone.

Griff, meanwhile, have won five of their last seven and sit seventh in the early season table, just a point off the play-offs. They beat Paget Rangers 2-1 last time out to bounce back from a pair of defeats.

Now managed by former Hinckley favourite Sam Belcher, Griff also have ex-AFC players Scott Smith and Liam Cross in their ranks. Hinckley’s Harry Walker-Donovan, Adam Barber and Lewis Collins have previously pulled on Griff’s blue and white.

It’s nearly three years since Hinckley’s last visit to the Pingles, but each of the last three trips there have followed the same pattern. Griff have taken the lead each time, only for Hinckley to hit back and win 2-1 late on. Steve Hart (2017), Kieran Harrison (2018) and Lewis Commins (2019) have all hit late winners.

The Pingles Stadium can be found at the back of the Leisure Centre, off Avenue Road, Nuneaton, CV11 4LX. The main turnstile to enter the ground is now by the leisure centre main entrance, to the right of the ground as you look at it from car park. This is a different entrance from the one fans used in the past.
