Atherstone trip in semi-final

Hinckley AFC have been drawn away to local rivals Atherstone Town in the semi-finals of the League Cup.

Our reward for beating Stapenhill earlier this week is the short trip to Sheepy Road for the right to reach the final next month.

The Adders, who are 14th in the Premier Division, beat Stone Old Alleynians this week to earn their place in the last four. That game extended their unbeaten run over 90 minutes to seven games, their FA Vase loss to holders Newport Pagnell Town coming on penalties.

The tie will also see plenty of familiarity between the squads. Ex-Hinckley quintet Alec Hill, Tom Smith, Jake Brown, Carl O’Neill and Brady Middleton are all with Atherstone now, while Connor Gudger and Jamie Hood both played for Hinckley United. For AFC, Tom Weale, Joe McNulty, Jack Edwards, Harry Walker-Donovan, Isa Abraham and Lewis Collins could all play against their former side.

In addition, Adders joint-boss Ross Innes used to assist at Hinckley, while Courtney Belford has spent time at Sheepy Road.

It will be the first competitive match between the two sides for more than four years, the last coming in March 2019.

The tie will take place at Sheepy Road on Wednesday 19th April, kicking off at 7.45pm.
