Hinckley AFC 3-2 Wolves Sporting

Riley Davoile scored a dramatic stoppage time goal as Hinckley extended their winning league sequence to eight by the skin of their teeth against Wolves Sporting.

With the game poised at 2-2, it appeared as though Hinckley would have to settle for a point, but once again they found a way to win and Davoile’s second of the afternoon sparked jubilant scenes on the terraces.

As well as that dramatic finale, the game had a remarkable start as the visitors took the lead inside two minutes. Brandon Bache was playing his first game in over a month and was caught on the ball in his own six yard box by Les Omorodion who netted.

Hinckley levelled on the quarter hour mark as Joe Cairns netted from close range after Lewis Rankin recycled a corner and, after Brady Middleton blazed over from six yards out, they went in front. Davoile, making his first start for the club, pounced to score after keeper Simon Cooksey could only parry Harry Sawyer’s long range shot.

Sporting were proving resilient opponents though, and ten minutes into the second half former Hinckley man Fortune Sibanda levelled the scores again. He picked up the ball midway inside the AFC half and with little else on he carried the ball before striking a 25-yard shot that found the back of the net.

Hinckley made a double change, as the introduction of Jack Edwards and Tom Weale breathed new life into a lacklustre performance.

And though they were far from their best, AFC did create chances. Brady Middleton was out of luck, his shot on the turn cannoned against the angle of post and bar before keeper Cooksey did well to save his effort from a short corner.

Hinckley became increasingly desperate as time ran out – Isa Abraham raced clear but Cooksey did well to block with his legs, but Abraham’s greatest impact was yet to come.

Three minutes into time added on, he raced down the left flank and pulled a ball back from Matt Dawson whose shot was diverted home by Davoile to great excitement amongst players and supporters, a mixture of joy and relief as the winning run continues.
