Match Preview: Wolves Sporting (a)

Hinckley AFC travel to Wolves Sporting on Tuesday for the third attempt at completing this fixture.

The match has twice fallen foul to the weather, and Hinckley’s away match at Coton Green suffering the same fate means AFC still have 10 league games to play this season.

The first of those will be at Hazel Lane as Joe Conneely and Courtney Hunter-Belford take their side to Staffordshire looking to continue their impressive away form.

The opposition

Like Hinckley, Sporting saw their match on Saturday postponed due to the weather – they were scheduled to be away at Shawbury United.

It means they have 11 games remaining, and are three points above the relegation zone but with games in hand on all of the sides around them.

And while they have lost their last three games at home, they have won their last two on the road and prior to that overturned promotion-chasing Droitwich Spa at Hazel Lane.

In 17-goal Jack Arnold, who started the season at Cradley Town, they have one of the division’s leading scorers while they also possess former Hinckley duo Mitchell Tomlinson and Fortune Sibanda.

Previous meetings

This is the third attempt getting this fixture played this season – Hinckley were leading 2-0 in October when the match was abandoned at half-time, before it was postponed in January – both times due to the weather.

In between those occasions, Hinckley won the match at Kirkby Road thanks to a Riley Davoile stoppage-time goal as they came from behind to win 3-2. Hinckley also did the same at Pride Park last season, trailing 2-0 at the break before winning 3-2.
