Dominic Perkins signs

Hinckley AFC have re-signed central defender Dominic Perkins from Midland League Premier Division side Romulus.

The popular defender originally played for the club during Dale Belford’s reign three seasons ago, and was club captain in that spell.

He made 12 appearances and chipped in with two vital goals, scoring in the FA Vase against Deeping Rangers and a last minute equaliser against Lichfield City.

Manager Courtney Belford said Perkins will add more options in the back line. He said: “He’s big, strong, physical and a great character to have around.

“He’s flexible and gives us options to play lots of different shapes. He’s naturally left footed which will add a bit of balance. He’ll give us options and that nastiness we need sometimes especially in the winter months.”

After leaving Hinckley, he played for Rugby Town and played 37 times as they finished third at step five. Current AFC ‘keeper Matt Hill was among his teammates there.

He spent the start of this season with Walsall Wood and started seven times for them before a solitary appearance at Romulus.

Belford says Perkins adds more competition for places – which he says is needed to compete towards the top.

“You need competition everywhere and we can’t turn players of this quality down when they become available. You’ll need a squad of players to achieve something, not just 11 players.”

Welcome back, Dom!
