Abbo: We’ll Continue to Improve

Hinckley AFC manager Carl Abbott was pleased with his side’s ‘excellent’ performance against Alvis Sporting, and says that they can still get better.
Three goals in each half gave Hinckley a comfortable win against Alvis, and Abbott says the open nature of the game helped his side.

‘It was excellent, a very good performance. That said, we started a little bit sloppily, and gave them the opportunity to show that they are actually quite a good side.

‘I put in my programme notes that I thought it would be an open game, from what we’d heard about them, and I thought it was a really good game to watch and it allowed us to flex our muscles a bit.

‘We’ve almost got a full squad now, we look a good side and we’ll kick on from here.’

After a difficult start, Hinckley have now won their last four league games, but the former Wolves Casuals boss says that his side are not doing too much differently.

‘This sort of form is what we expect. I’ve said repeatedly through the time that we have been winning games that we aren’t actually doing a great deal differently – we’re just not being punished for every mistake.

‘We’ll continue to improve. We’ve got a really strong squad now, and I’ve said to the lads that we’ll back each other. There will be times when people aren’t in the side, but we’ve got an excellent squad for this level of football and there will be rotation.

‘It’s such a shame that we made such a sloppy start, but we’ll deal with the hand that we’ve been dealt and see where our season can take us.’

And with another home match on Tuesday evening, Abbott says that his side can build on today’s performance and continue to get better.

‘I expect Tuesday to be a tough game against Lichfield City, but I’m confident that we can get better and better. We’re defending better, we look more potent going forward, we can score all types of goals, we’re giving Sam (Arnold) proper protection now, and we look a good side.
