Having stepped down from his roles as match secretary and treasurer, Ray Baggott has been named as honorary president of Hinckley AFC.
After more than 30 years of service to Hinckley football through Athletic, United and AFC, Ray has decided to step down from his roles at the club to focus on giving more time to his family.
To recognise his magnificent service to football in the town spanning four decades, the club have invited Ray to become our honorary president, a role which Ray has accepted.
He was presented with a recognition award and his lifetime season ticket after yesterday’s game against Heath Hayes.
Chairman Steve Jelfs said Ray is synonymous with football in the town. He said: “I remember the early meetings when we were forming AFC, there was much discussion about who would fill which roles in the new football club.
“There was never any doubt that we needed Ray to be the match secretary. No-one in Hinckley knew as much about local football or how the leagues and FA worked than Ray. Without Ray, the club would struggle to be born.
“Everyone was delighted when he agreed to be match secretary, and it is testament to his professionalism and love of football that he not only took on that role but also volunteered a treasurer. How he found the time I’ll never know.
“It has been a privilege to work with Ray over the years – I have learnt an enormous amount from him and I’m sure I’ve barely scratched the surface.
“I am delighted that club has been able to recognise Ray’s work, not only for Hinckley AFC but for football in general.
“He will be sorely missed behind the scenes but we look forward to welcoming him at our games as a supporter and wish him the very best for a much deserved rest.”
