Hinckley AFC will hope to reach the fourth round of the Buildbase FA Vase for a third consecutive year when they travel to Coventry United this afternoon.
After runs to the fifth round and fourth round respectively in the last two seasons, AFC will make a short journey down the M69 set on the task of making the last 32 for the third year in succession.
Only Tring Athletic, Bradford Town and Eastbourne Town can also boast the possibility of completing the same feat – with AFC the only step six side in with a shout of doing so.
After the resignations of James Jepson and John Ramshaw yesterday, AFC head to the Butts Park Arena with Dave Gunn taking temporary charge at short notice and club captain Louis Hamilton rallying the troops to give his side the best possible chance of progression.
They face a United side with a win, a draw and a defeat from their last three – most recently a 3-0 success at Highgate United on Wednesday in which Kyle Carey scored twice.
The Red and Greens entered in the first round qualifying, and have beaten Droitwich Spa, Atherstone Town, Wednesfield Town and Boldmere St Michaels to reach this stage.
Hinckley, meanwhile, were exempt to the second round as a result of their impressive recent runs and had to overcome Hereford Lads Club to reach this stage.
The winners will progress to round four in the first weekend of the new year, pick up £1,125 from the FA’s prize fund and receive exemption to the second round next year. The losing club picks up £375. If the match ends in a draw, extra time will be played – and if the scores are still level after the additional half hour the replay will be at the Welfare Ground on Tuesday evening.
United play at the Butts Park Arena, Butts Lane, Coventry, CV1 3GE. Matchday parking is controlled by the rugby club, and costs £2 per car. Alternative parking is available in the multi-storey adjacent to the Premier Inn.
