Scott’s half marathon effort

Member and supporter Scott Sharman will be taking on a half marathon to raise funds and awareness of a rare condition affecting his wife Sarah.

Scott, seen above with our primary sponsors DPD, will be a familiar face to many at the club. He has been involved with Hinckley AFC since our formation in 2014 and is a regular at Kirkby Road.

In February his life, and those of his family, were rocked by a rare lung cancer diagnosis to his 41-year-old, non-smoking wife Sarah.

Her illness is in the 3% to have the rare ALK Positive mutation. While still incurable, this particular kind of cancer does respond well to a daily dose of a medicine. However, this was only invented in the last decade.

The family are hoping that this treatment will allow years of health, something they admit seemed impossible.

Scott said: “In real terms, that means her life will now hopefully be measured in many more years rather than the months we were told in February.

“The support and empathy offered by fellow sufferers, as well as friends and family, especially in the first horrible days after diagnosis was so helpful.

“Now we want to give something back to a fantastic charity, ALK Positive UK. They do great work providing support for people affected by this rare disease.”

His way of giving back is to run a half marathon in the hilly climes of Anglesey. This is something that Scott once swore he would never do again.

He’ll be taking to the streets of North Wales on Sunday 5th September and has already raised more than his £1,500 target.

Good luck, Scott!
