Match Preview: Haughmond (h)

An eighth straight home win will be Hinckley AFC’s target when they welcome Haughmond to Kirkby Road on Monday evening.

AFC have won every home game since losing to Wolves Casuals in the first game of the season, recording seven victories on the bounce at Kirkby Road.

And now they’ll target an eighth against a Haughmond side who make the long journey from Shrewsbury to Leicestershire.

Manager Joe Conneely is pleased that his side can get back on home turf: “We’re comfortable at home. We haven’t dropped a point yet in the league so touchwood that can carry on.

“Haughmond were in the league above last season so they’ll have something about them, and we’ll have to be at our best to beat them.

“There’s a good feeling at the minute between the boys. Team spirit is high and that goes a long way in dressing rooms so hopefully we can keep following up wins.”

The visitors arrive sitting second from bottom of the Division One table after a 2-1 defeat to Stapenhill on Saturday – their fourth loss in a row.

But their lowly position comes largely from struggling to turn draws into wins – Haughmond have had more games ending level than anyone else in the league. They’ve also conceded the fewest goals of anyone in the bottom eight.
