Match Preview: Wolves Sporting (h)

Hinckley AFC will target back-to-back away league wins when a trip to Wolves Sporting gets November’s action underway on Saturday.

AFC returned to winning ways in the league with a 5-2 success at Paget Rangers last week as Tom Weale’s hat-trick continued a return to form that began with a 6-0 win over Sutton United in the League Cup five days earlier.

Now they face another away trip and are looking to remain in second place with the visit to Wolves Sporting.

The opposition

Sporting only have three wins so far this season but five draws and a goal difference of only -6 suggests they are rarely out of sight in games. They are 16th, with 14 points from their 15 games.

Their home form has been strong – just four defeats in all competitions this season and all have been by only one goal, most recently against Bilston Town last weekend. Their results at Pride Park have included wins over play-off chasing trio Allscott Heath, Stapenhill and OJM Black Country and a draw with third-placed Cradley Town.

They also beat Premier Division side AFC Wulfrunians on penalties in the League Cup ten days ago in which Jack Arnold scored twice. That moved him to four for the season, behind Leslie Omorodion and Reagan Wardle who have six apiece.

Previous meetings

Hinckley won both games last season, coming from 2-0 down at half-time to win the corresponding fixture a year ago. The home game was more comfortable with an 8-1 win at Kirkby Road. AFC’s previous visit to Pride Park was a 2-1 defeat in the JW Hunt Cup in 2015, having won 5-0 there in the FA Vase just three months earlier.

From the dressing room

“Wolves are competitive in every game and their home form is good. It will be a difficult game, and we’ll have to be at our best. We showed last year when we came from 2-0 down that they can punish you when you’re not. We came back to win but hopefully we don’t need a repeat of that! But it will be tough – it’s a good little ground and hopefully we can pick up three points.”
